  • Log into CoreView and modify the assigned licenses of a user who has an inherited group-based license by adding or removing a service from the user. To complete this step, use the 'Manage Licenses' management action in CoreView and disable a service like Sway or Stream in an Office E3 Plan. This step should be completed for all users of a group and this can be done in bulk using the 'Manage Licenses' management action. We recommend adding the 'Assigned Licenses From Group' column when using this action so you can filter users by a particular group.

  • After completing this step for all users of a group, the users will have both direct and inherited (license assignment group) licenses as seen below within the Azure Active Directory admin Center.

  • Next, you will need to remove the group from the licensed group. As result, all members of the group will only have the direct license assignment path. The licenses already assigned to the users of the group are not removed during this process as long as the first step was completed for each user in the group. To remove the group, follow the steps below:
    • Log into the Azure Active Directory admin center
    • From the Dashboard, select 'Licenses'
    • Select 'All Products' then click on the name of a license. In the left pane, select 'Licensed Groups'.
    • In the right pane, select the group and click 'Remove'

  • After completing the previous step, all members of the group will only have the direct license assignment path as seen below.

  • You now have disabled the group-based license assignment for a group and you can start to manage the licenses of users within CoreView.
